Expert ways to choose the best location for your in-ground swimming pool

Posted on: 12 May 2016

Deciding to have a pool is a huge decision, because building an in-ground pool is a long-term decision. The good thing about it is that you'll be boosting your home's value. As a plus, you'll also have an awesome pool where you can go and have a nice enjoyable time. But there's a catch. Finding the right spot takes more than just preference. Zoning regulations, drainage and ground conditions are just a few of the factors that can affect your decision. A lot has to be taken into consideration. So whether you're looking for new property for your pool, or wishing to have one in your current home, here are a few tips to getting the best location.

Look for a level area

If you're looking to escape extra costs, then go for an area that's as flat as possible. This is perhaps one of the biggest factors that can affect your costs. The reason is simple: any walls that are added in a sloping area to prevent the soil and dirt from getting back into the pool during rainy conditions. These walls can considerably skyrocket the costs of building your pool.

Another option would be to build the lower side till the area is level. However, when not compacted properly, the area may crack when it finally settles. Avoid all the stress and get a level area.

Have it easily visible

You also want to have the pool in an area that's easily visible. This is very important if you've got kids. You need to be able to see who is approaching the pool at any time. So try locating the pool close to a window. That way, you could easily peek from indoors to ensure that everything is okay.

Get it away from the wind

When planning your pool construction, ensure your pool is built away from areas that are too windy. The wind easily vapourises the water and would force you to keep adding more water to the pool. So go for areas blocked by your house or other structures. If the whole area is windy, you can also build a solid fence as a wind breaker.

Ground material

You also need to be aware of what's beneath the earth before you call the contractors and sign the cheques. Have a professional inspect the site for you. Areas with rocks cost a lot more, because the pool builders will have to blast the rocks. Even digging the post holes for the fence would take ages and cost you a great deal of money.
